A former lecturer at Adeleke University Osun State,Professor Steve-Ola Dahunsi has charged parents to see education as an everlasting legacy by investing more into their children. He stated this at the reunion programme organised by Old Students Association of Saint Thomas’s Anglican Comprehensive High School, Akure.
He implored the old students members of the school to form a formidable association so that they can give back to their Alma mater.
The erudite scholar who graduated from the school about thirty-eight years ago reiterated that giving back to one’s Alma mater in term infrastructural and human development is profitable and more rewarding.
At the occasion,Ondo State Commissioner for Education, Pastor Femi Agagu was represented by Director of School Services,Dr.Babatunde Ige.
Dr. Ige said he was glad with the activities put in place by the old students association to mark this year edition of the programme and for having the mind to develop their secondary school.
He furthered by saying that state government will support more ideas from the old students association to better the lots of the school.
All Progressive Congress Chieftain in Ondo State Barrister Olumuyiwa Adu said he was elated having seen the achievements of the old students association so far. He promised to support the association financially so that they can continue with their laudable programmes.
In the same vein,the special adviser to the Ondo State governor on Public and inter governmental relations Dr(Mrs)Olubunmi Odumosu charged the organizers to remain focused and never allow detractors to discourage them with their dreams and aspiration.
While admonishing the old students, the Iralepo of Isinkan Oba(Dr) Oluwagbemiga Olofin- Adimula said coming together of Old Students Association always bring about good fortunes for a particular school.
The monarch said Saint Thomas Anglican Comprehensive High School old students association has produced great men and women in society therefore they must use their positions to bring about development to the school.
Earlier Chairman Planning Committee of the event, Pastor Remi Osho appreciated God for making the day a reality. He said he was overwhelmed by the support given by members of the association.
He opined that where love exist, unity of purpose would be achieved and this will bring unprecedented achievements.
Part of the event was conferment of honourary doctorate degree on Pastor Aderemi Osho and other notable personalities, thereafter presentation of scholarship awards to fifty indigent students of the school sponsored by International Way Of Life Ministry,Houston, Texas.
The Senior Pastor of the church,Pastor David Osho who was the first geography teacher in the school in the early eighties who represented by Pastor Talabi. He the ministry will continue with the gesture because it is part of the vision given to the ministry Senior Pastor, Pastor (Dr.) David Osho. During the occasion Pastor Osho spoke with the people Via zoom.
He said he is extremely joyous associating with the school. He said God laid it in his heart that giving back to the society should be given utmost priority in his ministry.
He reiterated that the gesture will continue by God’s grace, thereafter he prayed for the school,old students Association and scholarship recipients.
A Parent,Mrs. Beatrice Olajide appreciated International Way of Life Ministry, Houston, Texas and our father in the Lord that God gave the vision, Pastor(Dr.) David Osho for his kind gesture and for remembering the less priviledge and indigent students in the society.
Transition and Board Elders Committees were formed to pilot the affairs of the association for a while. The Transition committe was chaired by Mr. ‘Jaye Agunbiade of 1985 set Mr. Bankole George, Vice-Chairman, Mr. Oluwateru Olanrewaju, Secretary, Mrs.Olaide Otuyemi, Assistant Secretary and others.
Elders Committee will be chaired by Pastor (Dr.) Aderemi Osho.
They were given mandates to form a solid foundation for the association and later conduct credible elections for the old students body.
Guests were treated to a sumptuous meal with beautiful music which added glamour to the event.
Dignitaries that attended the event includes, Ondo State minority leader in the house of assembly, Honourable Olajide Oguntodu, Honourable Adeolu Adeniran, Honourable Stephen Abitogun, Otunba Olumide Olayinka, Chairman T. S Furniture Nigeria Limited, Elder Victor Adebusuyi, President Owolowo Cooperative Society Limited, former school principal, Mr B Ayodele ,Evangelist Sunday Faromo, Her Excellency Catherine Aluko, former teachers of the school,the school principal, Mr. Godson Likoyi and teachers presently teaching in the school.
