The Akure South chapter of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) met yesterday with a view to repositioning the party ahead of the November 16 governorship election.

The well-attended meeting was in response to the spontaneous reactions and the heat that greeted the nomination of the deputy governorship candidate from the Akure South chapter of the party, following the party’s primary election, which was adjudged as the freest and most credible.

The former Ondo Deputy Governor, Ambassador Omolade Oluwateru, who doubles as the leader of the party, appealed to everyone who may be dissatisfied with the nomination of the deputy governorship candidate to sheath their swords in the overall interest of the party and the citizenry who see the PDP as the only alternative to the APC.

In his words, he maintained that the PDP might find it uneasy in future elections if we don’t get it right now. The nominations of both the governorship and deputy governorship candidates have been made official, and what remains for the party is to ensure their total victory during the November 16 election, because there’s nothing to share in nothing.

He emphasised genuine reconciliation and unity as catalysts in achieving electoral victory. He continued by saying that the battle before us is defeatable if all stakeholders remain resolute, united, and loyal. Presently, the party at the center has caused more havoc and has nothing more to offer the people; we must capitalise on this to regain our winning status.

The party’s governorship candidate in the November 16 election, H.E. Agboola Alfred Ajayi thanked the leadership and entire members for their support so far. Within the span of two weeks, the Akure South PDP has received three waves of defections from the All Progressives Congress (APC), and more are still coming, he said.

The governorship candidate assured the people of Akure that he would not disappoint them, noting that he possesses the needed prerequisites to govern well and take Ondo State to a greater level. He furthered by saying that Akure must join in his determination to rescue, reclaim, and redefine Ondo State for the overall benefit of all and sundry.

In the meantime, the meeting welcomed the new members who, in their numbers, recently defected to the party from the APC. They were advised, after being introduced to the PDP ward chairmen, to go back to their various political wards and start the process of formally admitting them into the party.

Finally, party leaders present at the meeting reaffirmed their readiness and commitment towards achieving lasting peace, unity, and harmony before and during the November election. They assured the gubernatorial candidate and his deputy that Akure would not let them down.

The well-attended stakeholders’ meeting was witnessed by a crop of party leaders, executive members both at the ward and local government levels, and many more.
