The Akure South chapter of the People’s Democratic Party, PDP yesterday, Friday 21st July, 2023 held its first stakeholders interactive and strategic meeting after 2023 general elections.
The well attended meeting which was centered mainly on unity among party members, and maintain cohesiveness, these will act as a catalyst in achieving electoral victory for the party in subsequent elections.
Party leaders present at the meeting, reaffirmed their readiness towards achieving lasting peace and unity within the ranks and files in the party.
Speaking at the meeting Ondo State Former Deputy Governor and Member of Trustee of the party H. E (Amb.) reiterated his commitment towards the progress, unity and stability of PDP at all levels, noting that time has come for everybody to come together for a common goal which is nothing but electoral victory for the PDP in Akure South and the entire State. He continued by saying that it is possible to achieve the feat, if all of us remain resolute and determined with absolute loyalty to the party .
Ambassador Oluwateru maintained that, there are issues begging for attention before the elections in which all interested stakeholders did their best to address them but those issues are no longer relevant now because the deeds had been done and nothing to drag again except those who want the party to remain in perpetual darkness. He Urged every member to let go of the past and work together as a team in order to put the party back on the track
He told the gathering that, PDP as a party would remain strong, indivisible and focused irrespective of what might have happened. He charged all stakeholders in the party to be ready to sacrifice a lot for the party in regaining its relevance and winning status which is known for in Akure and its environs. He said 2024 is fast approaching and we must do everything politically possible to remove the hurdles before us in order to provide better alternative for our people.
In the same vein, others who added their voices to the pressing issues during the meeting appealed to members to bury whatever grievances they might still having against one and other, they canvased for absolute loyalty from members and those who have been steadfast, committed and loyal to the cause of the party should also be encouraged and rewarded as well. They said It’s high time we jettison the idea of rewarding disloyal and unstable politicians who’s mission are to reap where they did not sow; speakers include, Dr. Tayo Olujuyigbe, Mr Oladimeji Busuyi, Mrs Olu Agbi, Alh. Saka Arowolo among others.
In another development, the complaints from members were also addressed, these included party agents stipend among others.
In his reaction, Hon. Oguntodu Olajide Johnson, member Ondo State House of Assembly representing Akure South constituency I pleaded with those concerned to still keep patient with them as efforts are on in doing the needful. He used the avenue to canvased for peace, love and unity among members adding that no mountain is insurmountable when absolute love reigns within, he therefore enjoined members to shun acts that would further lead the party to more polarization as experienced before.
The meeting was witnessed by crops of leaders, Executives members both at ward and Local Government, Chairmanship & Vice Chairmanship Candidates, all eleven Councillorship Candidates.
Giving vote of thanks, Hon. Kemisola Asesanya reassured members of her commitment to the party and ruled out possibility of joining APC as been speculated. She however charged all stakeholders to remain together, steadfast and go back to their various ward and do needful, adding that those still nursing bitterness, hatred and acrimony should have a rethink and retrace their steps, as the party will no longer condole indiscipline and act of lawlessness of any kind that could further jeopardize our electoral fortunes.
Members in attendance resolved to work in one accord in the interest of the party.
Party leaders that could not attend but sent apologies incluses: Balogun Eyitayo Jegede SAN, Basorun Ifedayo Adedipe SAN, Arch. Jide Adejuyigbe, among others. They could not make the meeting due to official assignments and personal engagements.
