As President Bola Tinubu announced a palliative package for Nigerian workers in a bid to alleviate the hardship among the workforce which was caused by the fuel subsidy removal in his Independence Day speech, might cause organised labour to reverse their decision.
Spokesperson of the Ministry of Labour, Mr. Olajide Oshundun said this is part of efforts toward preventing the planned nationwide strike by the organized labour.
Oshundun noted that the two major demands from the unions had been presented to the president had been addressed by President Tinubu who in the customary presidential speech delivered today to commemorate Nigeria’s Independence Day.
He said since they got the news of organised labour intention to go on strike, they have put necessary machineries in place to avert the nationwide strike,” Oshundun said.
He reiterated that second demand had already been handled by securing the release of the NURTW factional chairman.
“So we hope to invite them on Tuesday following the pronouncement of the president to see reasons for them to call off the strike,” he added.
Recall that the Organised labour said it will embark on an indefinite strike from October 3, over the prevailing hardship due to the removal of oil subsidy.
